Before choosing rural internet equipment

1. Compare providers. Availability, plans, equipment and fees vary by address. Check directly with each provider.
2. Evaluate the installation. Satellite service needs a clear view of the sky; other services may require line-of-sight or wiring.
3. Plan your home network. A strong satellite connection doesn't guarantee coverage across a large home, basement, garage, or detached workspace.
4. Compare total costs. Include equipment, mounting accessories, installation, and any additional networking hardware.

Internet works—but Wi-Fi doesn't reach everywhere?

The internet connection and the wireless network inside your home are different things. These are the first checks I'd make:

Test near the main router

Check speeds and reliability close to the router, then compare with distant rooms. This helps isolate a coverage issue.

Look for wired Ethernet

If your home has usable Ethernet cabling, wired connections between mesh nodes can improve consistency.

Position mesh nodes carefully

Don't hide Wi-Fi access points inside metal cabinets or behind dense obstacles. Placement matters.
